Mundaring - Heart of the Hills
Our
annual Trek the Trail
event provides the perfect opportunity to explore different sections
of the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail each year.
But did you know that this trail is just one of
many trails that
meander through the spectacular Perth Hills?
Among the best are the internationally acclaimed
Bibbulmun
Track
walk trail which passes through Mundaring on its way to Albany in
the south-west and the
Munda Biddi
off-road cycle trail which starts in the heart of town and also
journeys south. The
recently completed National Trust
KEP Track
is a 70km multi-user trail from Mundaring Weir, which travels east
into the picturesque Avon Valley to Northam.
These trails and the many smaller, local walks to be found
throughout the hills make Mundaring an ideal starting point to enjoy
some of the most stunning scenery the State has to offer.
But,there is so much more than trails to discover in the Perth Hills;
first-class restaurants, casual cafés and boutique wineries, a
famous pizzeria, open air markets, art galleries, outdoor concerts,
heritage-listed hotels, inns and taverns oozing with country charm.
Idyllic picnic spots like Lake Leschenaultia,
John Forrest and Mundaring national
parks and the many nature-based activities available all serve to
complete your ‘Hills experience’.
Of course, a visit to the weir and the museum at
No. 1 Pump Station is a must.
Here you will learn more about the brilliant ‘scheme of
madness’ as the pipeline was originally dubbed.
Although the project was completed over one hundred years ago
it still remains one of the longest freshwater pipelines in the
World today.
There is also a range of quality accommodation options available, whether
it’s a romantic hideaway that appeals, or somewhere to bring the
family. Next time you
are looking for somewhere to escape for the weekend or perhaps a
little longer, the chances are you’ll find just what you’re looking
for right here on the city’s doorstep.
So why not make the short drive into the Perth Hills and
discover it for yourself!
The staff at the Mundaring Visitor Centre look forward to welcoming you!
